04/03/2023 - Monday - Day 2 Chicago, pt 1

 April 3, 2023 - Monday - A day in the Museum District

Getting off to a decent start this morning with donuts that Clover got us from the local coffee and donut shop at the corner and everybody cleaned up.

Found some strange animal in annika's brush that needed to be removed and disposed of in her medically sealed containers

Currently at 9:19 a.m. walking toward Metro station after a little bit of confusion with what route to take and where stops were…but that's 100% normal when you're getting used to a new city and the public transportation there

We spent about an hour consulting earlier on schedule plans for a play on Thursday evening and when and where to use our city pass.. plans are to be at the Adler aquarium at 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. then get started on our city bus tour that we can jump on and off of for the next 2 days.

We have also scheduled for sky visit on what used to be the Sears Tower and are only slightly disappointed (lying) that we only get 60 seconds up at the top.  Definitely makes me miss the ice cream visit to the top of the needle in Auckland.

Nobody's first trip on a subway but everybody's first trip on the Chicago L.

9:35 - red line at Belmont  southbound - 95th/Dan Ryan.  A little challenging getting through the turnstile & mixup in Northbound vs southbound sides - feeling rushed, but all is fine & we're on our way to the waterfront museum area.

See - I was thinking it was L because their "subway" is "Elevated."  Original L was a steam powered engine train in 1892, but then they began converting to electric between 1893-95 with the Columbian World's faire introduction of the 3rd rail electric train technology.

The city also advertising their buses will be fully converted to electric by…. 2030?

Roosevelt exit is a little bit from The Field Museum but not too much for walk just a couple of blocks

Soldier Field ❤️❤️❤️

Statue of Christopher Columbus temporarily closed

Gorgeous riverfront with funny small duck like birds who dive for minutes at a time.

Shedd aquarium was so much fun! 2nd largest aquarium in the US.

Saw the dolphins…

But most importantly… the Belugas!

Also - Penguins

Cuttlefish!

Glass Catfish

Coral Reef organisms

Jellyfish

Watched the birds sand bath after we left the aquarium

Lunch is Chicago style 🌶️ hot dogs - mine with Chili

On to the Big Bus Tour to get a break from walking & see things we might not otherwise see .., learn  things we might not otherwise know…
