4,/1/2023 - Driving to Chicago with An & Clover

I was today days old when I realized the real brilliance behind my parents waking early is pack the car & start our long driving trips.

Yes... This is me at 5:13 a.m. getting my overnight bag finalized for tonight. That is me with no makeup and puffy eyes and I'm going to stop voice to texting because I don't want to wake up the kids because it's quiet out and because I want to get the car packed as quickly as possible to get moving.

Coffee still left from yesterday will be this morning's first coffee. If all goes well I should be on the road by 5:30 but 15 minutes is pretty aggressive.

Things my parents probably had never to do:

Stretch their hamstrings & glutes: because they were always much younger than I am now.

Make it last minute download of an audiobook .... because 80s.

Get all their vitamins together.

Put their rosacea medication in the bag at the last moment from the fridge... Hoping it stays good through the whole trip because it's expensive.

Put on sunscreen and eyeliner and probably a bit of powder before I leave... Because for whatever complaints I have of my mother, it is not that she was vain.  I know that I am very much more vain than she is... I should probably blame that on the 80s also.

Blogging their trip as they go.

Wondering still if they had remembered all of the coats and long weather clothes to be prepared for going further north... Because we were always further north going south.

Wondering whether or not they would be able to find open space at the cheap hotel on the way... Because the lord always provided and they never questioned that.

Making sure the cats were IN the house.

That the house lights on the timers are in the ON position.

Things my parents would have done:

Last minute packing of refrigerator items.... Though they probably wouldn't keep pondering whether or not any of the beer should be added.  And if they had them... It would not have been microbrews.

5:30 - waking kids and making sure they're at least dressed appropriately to go into a gas station for the bathroom.

But HEY!  I'm driving a Hybrid!  So at least 450 miles between gas stops!

I have a half tank, which will get us to our first potty break.

Need to at least get water bottles in the car....

Ok .. leaving!  New GPS for the first part of the journey and apparently no key yet either because..

Probably inauspicious that I forgot the key in the house to begin our trip 😂

5:49 am departure.  No GPS for first part.  Just go 64 forEVER

Anika says "Yo!"

Two steps already and returns to home base because one I needed the picnic kit and two Annika didn't have her heavy coat for Chicago in April.

Annnd.... To their dad's for coat...

New departure 6:01am.

Note: my parents would leave hours earlier than this ..
